The PSIA E-learning course
Module 1: The PSIA Approach - How and when it is applied
Module 2: Overview of tools and methods
Module 3: PSIA Good Practices

The PSIA E-learning Course provides fundamental PSIA training in three modules:
  • Module 1. The PSIA Approach - How and When it is Applied

The PSIA framework is a 10 step conceptual approach that promotes the robust analysis of the impacts of policy reform. It was developed for use by governments, research institutes, donors, NGOs and World Bank and IMF staff as a framework for carrying out analysis. Each PSIA will vary according to the different reform issues and different levels of available capacity.

This module will help to identify, understand, and follow the 10 steps of the PSIA approach.

  • Module 2. The PSIA Approach - Overview of Tools and Methods

This module will explore the range of tools and methods that are available to thoroughly analyze the poverty and social impacts of a reform. The choice of tools and methods will vary and depend on the reform type and country specific situation, including capacity and time available. The tools available are both economic and social, and will need to be integrated so as to effectively estimate the impact of a policy reform on the different groups involved.

Module 2 will help select an effective combination of tools and methods to analyze the impact of a given reform.

  • Module 3. Implementing PSIA - PSIA Good Practice

Module 3 focuses on carrying out PSIA in practice, examining how PSIA should be integrated into country work and what the good practices of PSIA are. Good PSIA should be country-specific and context-specific. Each analysis’ design will vary depending on the data, capacity, time and analytical constraints that exist.

Even though the tools and techniques used for PSIA vary across countries, reforms, and circumstances, all PSIA can follow certain good practices.

These modules are a rapid learning tool that will inform you on what PSIA is and how and when to carry it out.
