Pollution Prevention and Abatement Handbook: Toward Cleaner Production, 1998

Pollution Prevention and Abatement Handbook, 1998

In July 1998, the World Bank Group approved the Pollution Prevention and Abatement Handbook, for use in Bank Group operations. This Handbook, which was compiled by environmental staff from the Bank and IFC, replaces the 1988 Environmental Guidelines and supercedes draft versions of the Handbook which had been in circulation for comment and discussion.

While the Handbook can be ordered through the link on the left, the full text is also available on this site, in PDF format (see subsections under Pollution Prevention and Abatement Handbook on the left).

In making this Handbook available to all interested parties, the Bank invites feedback from users on practical applications and experiences with the Handbook. Please submit related queries through the Ask Us link under Site Resources on the left.

The Handbook is a living document and additional guidelines will be prepared as the need arises. The existing guidelines are subject to revision and updating if necessary but it is intended to minimize changes until a substantial body of experience has been built up in the use of the Handbook. Any additions and updates should be made available on this site.
