Medium-Sized Project
Medium-sized projects (MSPs) follow expedited preparation procedures. GEF MSP guidelines are available from the GEF Secretariat's web site (see below).
Once the MSP Concept Paper is submitted to the Bank it is reviewed internally and if found suitable, entered into the Bank’s Work Program for that country. The project proponent will be advised on the following: (a) the concept’s eligibility for GEF financing; (b) if revisions are required to make the concept eligible; (c) if the concept is not eligible.
Guidance to help project proponents prepare an MSP Concept Paper is provided under Information Kit Supplements for MSP Proposers Working with the World Bank (see below).
On average, it takes about one year for a MSP from identification, preparation to approval. Project preparation grants of up to $25,000 are available for the development of a medium-sized project.
Along with the Bank’s project procedure, each MSP is subject to GEF’s project eligibility criteria which are available from the GEF Secretariat. A majority of the Bank implemented MSPs are proposed and executed by local or international NGOs.
