The goal of the World Bank's Environment Strategy is to promote environmental improvements as a fundamental element of the development and poverty reduction strategies and actions.

The Strategy has three interrelated objectives:
  • improving people's quality of life
  • improving the prospects for and the quality of growth
  • protecting the quality of the regional and global environmental commons
The Environment Strategy was endorsed by the World Bank Board of Executive Directors on 17 July 2001.
