The World Bank's Water Resources Sector Strategy was unanimously endorsed by the World Bank's Board of Executive Directors in February 2003.
After intensive consultations with many development partners, and internal discussions, consultations were held with multi-stakeholder groups in Brazil, Philippines, Yemen, Nigeria and India during the brainstorming phase. All of the materials from those consultations were posted at the time on the World Bank's external web site.
Following that first round of consultations, a draft of the Strategy was made available for public consultation on this website in April 2002. All who were interested were encouraged to send their comments by June 7 to John Briscoe, World Bank Senior Water Advisor.
Additionally, a second and final round of consultation meetings came to an end on May 29. This included returning to the same groups who were consulted earlier in Brazil, Philippines, Yemen, Nigeria, and India (see timetable below). During this stage, consultations were also held in the US and Europe with representatives of donor governments, NGOs and the private sector.
An independent facilitator managed these consultations and a report on the external views elicited by the consultations is available on this site. You can also download the Strategy from this website by clicking on the section titled "Strategy" on the navigator to your left.
