Country Water Resource Assistance Strategies
The World Bank's water assistance is tailored to country circumstances and consistent with the overarching Country Assistance Strategies (CAS) and Poverty Reduction Strategy Papers (PRSPs). An important tool in the implementation of the Bank's Water Resources Sector Strategy is the development of "Country Water Resources Assistance Strategies" (CWRASs). CWRASs are individual country strategies that define 3-year programs of Bank lending and non-lending support.
An important objective of the CWRAS process is to deepen relationships with critical local actors, and, where appropriate and necessary, to build local capacity. Most importantly, the CWRASs focus on bringing coherence to Bank's support on water across the resource and service spectrum. They are complementary to the CAS and describe what the Bank can and will do to help improve water resources management in a country.
Only a few countries in each region have been selected for CWRAS development. Priority is given to countries where water problems are serious and where there is a demand for Bank engagement. These countries are:
Region | Countries selected for CWRAS development |
| Latin America & the Caribbean | Brazil, Peru, Honduras, Dominican Republic |
| South Asia | Bangladesh, India, Pakistan |
| East Asia & Pacific | China, Philippines, Indonesia |
| Africa | Ethiopia, Kenya |
| Middle East & North Africa | Yemen, Iran |
The results of the CWRASs will be posted on this website as they become available.
